Zachary Zach Israel Braff (born April 6, 1975) is an American actor, director, screenwriter, and producer. During the 2000s, he became known for his role as John J.D. Dorian on the popular TV Series Scrubs, which earned him his first Emmy nomination. Braff also wrote, starred, and directed 2004 s Garden State, a dark coming of age film which brought him his first financial success and critical acclaim. The soundtrack record, which he selected and produced, earned him a Grammy for Best Soundtrack Album in 2005. He graduated from Columbia High School in Maplewood, where he worked in the school s television station. Braff began his career in stage productions of William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night and Macbeth at New York City s Public Theater, and also appeared in Woody Allen s 1993 film Manhattan Murder Mystery. Braff was briefly on the Disney program The Baby-sitters Club in an episode titled Dawn Saves the Trees. Braff has directed several music videos: Gavin DeGraw s Chariot, Joshua Radin s Closer and I d Rather Be With You, and Lazlo Bane s Superman, the theme song from Scrubs. Despite winning a Grammy Award for assembling the soundtrack album of Garden State and directing three music videos, In late October 2008, Bill Lawrence confirmed Braff will star in what is expected to be the final season of Scrubs, but stated should ABC decide to continue Scrubs, Braff will not return as an actor, but said that he would possibly direct a few episodes. In the field of voice acting, Braff narrated Wendy s TV commercials in 2007 and 08. He has also portrayed the voice of the Cottonelle puppy in commercials as of late; Braff also makes a brief cameo in one spot.
